Graduating from university and starting a new job is an exciting but challenging experience at the best of times, but especially in the midst of a global pandemic. Having finished my Psychology degree, I was considering a number of career paths, but was most interested in working in digital marketing.
To explore this, and to remain focused during lockdown, I completed some online courses whilst looking for the right job opportunity. When I saw a digital marketing apprenticeship at BBD Boom, it particularly caught my eye, as it looked like a great place to really develop my skills and take on new challenges. As you would expect, I was over the moon to be offered a role as an Inbound Executive.
Before I knew it, my first day had arrived. Although I felt nervous, my mind was quickly put at ease when I received a warm welcome from the team; it immediately felt like a fun and casual environment. I was introduced to my new mentors, Elysha and Tommy, who had put together a training deck including tasks for me to work through during my first month. I was even treated to lunch!
Having developed analytical skills from my degree, I was most looking forward to learning about how paid media strategies can be optimised with improvements implemented to help clients achieve their goals. I started the month by completing some online certifications to help me gain a broad understanding of the theory behind inbound marketing and some of the techniques used. So far, I have gained HubSpot certifications in reporting, marketing software, and inbound marketing, as well as Google search and display ads.
Once I got to grips with the theory, I learned how to use Facebook Ads Manager and LinkedIn Campaign Manager to set up paid social campaigns, as well as being taught how to navigate Google Ads. I was even given the opportunity to set up a search ad campaign for BBD Boom! In addition, I have gained experience in monitoring and optimising live campaigns, including using Opteo to produce weekly reports.
Aside from paid media, I have enjoyed learning about search engine optimisation (SEO). During my first month, I have been involved in helping to conduct keyword research and preparing an SEO audit and competitor analysis for a client. Over the last month, I have also been working on a data cleanse project for BBD Boom, which involves identifying and updating inaccurate contact properties on HubSpot to improve the quality of our data.
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first month working at BBD Boom! The team are so friendly and have made me feel really welcome, and there is plenty of support available if I ever have any questions. After a very busy but exciting first month, I am looking forward to developing my skills and applying what I have learnt to more client projects - not to mention going on our team’s first away day!
